Memorial Day 2010 - A First for Me

Today we (hopefully) take a moment and pay tribute to the men and women, both past and present who've served our country in times of peace and war.

Our servicemen have always had a special place in my heart...their selfless acts of bravery, service and commitment to something greater often leave me at a loss for words.

This year Memorial Day has added meaning since it's the first year I can proudly say my son is a member of this great brotherhood of men and women.

Let's remember those who've lost their lives and those who give their all for the sake of others.

Pvt. Jamison Kenneth Nelson, I love you and am so very proud of the man you've become.......love Mom ....xoxoxo

Soldier's Creed

I am an American Soldier.

I am a Warrior and a member of a team. I serve the people of the United States and live the Army Values.

I will always place the mission first.

I will never accept defeat.

I will never quit.

I will never leave a fallen comrade.

I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills. I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.

I am an expert and I am a professional.

I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.

I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.

I am an American Soldier.

There's Something Wrong With This Picture

Anyone can look at the photo above of this poor dying beautiful creature and know there's something wrong...but that's not the picture I'm referring to.

My rant is more figurative...(or should I say "figures") than literal.

Before BP's failed safety policies, poor management, or whatever caused the terrible explosion that has all but destroyed the Gulf, their first quarter profit for 2010 was something I can't even wrap my little feeble mind around......$66 million PER DAY!!!! In 2009, BP's total profits was $14 billion!!!!

Albeit, some experts project the cost to BP per day...due to the oil spill is roughly $16 million....and?!!

PEOPLE OIL HAS BEEN POURING INTO OUR GULF COAST FOR OVER 1 MONTH.....ONE FULL MONTH....30+ DAYS....NON-STOP....24/7.

Can ANYONE fix this.......

pic of oil spill from SPACE....

I'll certainly never be able to say the Mississippi Delta "ain't even on the map" again....

Beyond Petroleum.....Really?

Progress On The Natural State of Things Pt. 2

Back in December I decided to take the plunge and start transitioning my hair into it's "natural" state.

Out with the straightening combs, chemical relaxers and the occasional extensions I accessorized my mane with over the years.

This was my TWA (teeny weeny afro) back in February.

Well three months later here I am!

Social Media is No Place For Fools!

If you've been a frequent flyer around these parts, you already know how much I love social media.

I'm always posting about the benefits of Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, Digg, and just about any others out there.

I've found that it's an awesome way to meet great people, stay in touch with friends and family and reconnect with folks you never imagined you'd see or speak to again.

In three words, I love it!....which is why I hate to see these type platforms used for trivial bullcrap.

The Eyes Have It

We've all seen it. People of African ancestry born with light colored eyes...light brown, hazel, green or gray. But what are the chances of a baby with the same type ancestry having BLUE EYES....a million to one!

(SandraRose)

He's a cutie! Just thought I'd share...

I'll Take it Like a Woman....Just be gentle

Oh my...I don't know where on Earth to start. I guess "where I left off" is most appropriate.

Definitely has been a while since I've sat down to jot down my usual daily ramblings. Work, the house hunt and life (in general) convinced me that I was entirely toooo busy to take the time to blog. I mean who really cares about which house I decided to get or what the strange patient I took care of last night had to say or how much my little TWA (teen weeny afro, remember...) has grown (and it has...I'll post pics soon).

Then I realized ALL of you guys care...that's WHO!

My faithful few who stop by at least once a day to see what's going on with me CARE.

So, please accept my sincere apology for being away from a great group of bloggy buddies for far too long....and remember....be gentle.

Now, let's get down to business:
