I have been lying in bed, heavily medicated, for the past day and a half. During this brief moment of coherency, I will attempt to tell you what’s on my mind.
Much has already been said about the Citibank employee, Debralee Lorenzana, who was fired for being too sexy. I don’t normally like to contribute to someone’s fifteen minutes of fame, but I would like to approach this story from a different angle.
Some of the “higher ups” in the Citibank organization deny allegations that she was fired because of her physique. They say that it was because the outfits she was wearing were not appropriate for a corporate setting. I don’t know their dress code, so I can’t comment much on that. But, this does raise another interesting question…..What if this employee didn’t meet the conventional standards for sexiness! If she was obese, would this even be an issue? Probably not.
I’m pretty sure that the decision to terminate her employment was not based on a majority vote of the male employees. It was more than likely based on pressure from their significant others!
Coming up with a description of what’s considered sexy is ambiguous at best. What appeals to one man may not appeal to another. Even Hollywood has trouble with the topic…..It is rare that the person who wins the “Sexiest Person Alive” title does so two years straight.
Maybe one day Citibank will take over Hollywood as the ones who tell us what’s sexy. After all, they appear to be experts on what stimulates the male libido!!
