Ten Things That Make Me Happy
One of the coolest things about the blogosphere is receiving awards and recognition from fellow bloggers. There's really no greater compliment than those you receive from your peers...friends...blogging buddies....well, you get the picture.
Staci over at Just Bloggled: When Life Gets a Little Baffling presented me with the Happy 101 Blog Award.
The rules require you to come up with 10 things that make you happy, as well as 10 blogs or bloggers that make you happy to pass the award on to.
Hope I'm not cited by the better-follow-the-rules-or-else blog police but I think I'm going to change it up just a little bit.
Before I begin my list of happy things I'd like to present all my regular readers with this award. You and I know who you are. And you guys are great!
I don't mind admitting that I don't always manage to get around to the blogs listed in my "Daily Reads" or my blog roll every day. So, seeing my blogging buddies pop in and leave comments really gets me motivated on those days when I chose laziness over entertainment. And for that I say thank you and please accept this award from me to you!
Now for my list of 10 things that make me happy:
1. My Children and family - in the midst of all that I call chaos, these guys keep me focused, grounded and aware of what's most important in life.
2. Nursing - no matter how overwhelming and stressful my job is....it's a blessing to be able to provide care to a person when they're most vulnerable...watching a parent's relief when their little treasure starts feeling better, holding the hand of a dying patient, getting goose bumps every time you witness the birth of a child (that feeling never goes away), hearing the little kid in line at the grocery store yell "Hey there goes my nurse" as they run toward you and give you their biggest and bestest bear hug. Nursing makes me happy.
3. Writing - the act of putting pen to paper or fingertips to keyboard and creating something other people can relate to, learn from, find humor in, or disagree with. It's therapeutic...and a great way to keep those cerebral cobwebs at bay.
4. Being in Love - I've heard it said that being in love causes the same chemical reactions in the brain a patient suffering from insanity experiences. And I guess that might be true. Love is blind. Love has no limit. Love is giving and not expecting anything in return. You lay your heart, mind and soul on the line and expect/hope that special someone will cherish them....when that happens...there's no greater feeling.
5. Seymour and Coco - my first two kitty cats. Between Coco's constant vocal serenades and Seymour's constant "mawing" it's never a dull moment at our crib. They're truly unique creatures. The Egyptians were onto something with their kitty worship!
6. Laughing until it hurts - sure we see funny stuff several times a day. But every now and then you read, witness, or hear something so funny you laugh so hard you can't hardly control it. I especially love it when the laughter is so contagious a person that walks up and has no idea what's so friggin' funny starts laughing just because you are....
7. Watching the light bulb come on - I know my limitations. So, when I say I'm not a "teacher" please believe me. Still there's something about giving someone instructions about something you know you know how to do and after several attempts at explaining it hoping they'll "get it".....they finally do. Job well done!
8. HGTV - I could watch that channel 24/7. I get the same feeling I experienced as a child when I would spend hours looking in the huge Sear Christmas Wishbook.....one day....one day...and it won't be long.
9. Occasional brain farts - of course, you don't want these occurring on a regular basis but every now and then being totally oblivious has it's advantages.....case and point....you wake up and look at the time....oh my God...I'm so late! After leaping out of bed like a wild woman....heading to the bathroom for the quickest shower ever...you realize....YOU'RE OFF WORK TODAY!!! (haven't you done that and doesn't it feel good???)
10. My Home - my sanctuary....the place I can be me and don't have to worry about who does or doesn't like it. If I want to curl up and watch Turner Classic Movies all day or practice my "Single Ladies" dance routine without being laughed off the planet or not comb my hair all weekend or lick my plate after I finish a delicious meal or eat that M&M that fell on the floor or convince myself that I've had a hellacious Tae-bo work out when in all honesty I gave up 15 minutes into the video and spent the other 45 minutes sprawled across the bed wondering how they make Billy Blanks and those other cyborgs look so human.....I can!
