Well guys...looks like we're gonna make it. As a dear friend of mine put it "A decade that started with Y2K has ended with WTF!"
The first decade of the new millennium has been filled with an assortment of memories for me. Some will be cherished forever and others will need the services of a psychotherapist to unhinge from the deep creases and crevices of my mind.
One thing will be different for me this time. I refuse to resolve to change one thing about my life (unless someone out there has a bargain basket filled with fail-proof resolutions they're selling....at a discount, of course).
Change is good and whether we realize it or not....happens almost on it's own. I've just found that announcing some bogus resolution for the sake of keeping with tradition leaves me holding a bag I can't always live up to.
Hell...two weeks into this month I'll probably have forgotten what I resolved to do in the first place. So, I'm just going to take one day at a time and live each day to the fullest....good, bad or indifferent.
Life's a journey - learning to enjoy the ride and slowing down when necessary for occasional pit stops is all a part of it.
Happy New Year my dear friends! Here's to many many many more.
CHEERS!!!

Blessings and Peace To You All
It's been quite a year. I finally hit the big 4-0! I've changed jobs twice, graduated a son from high school; only to see him head off to Basic Training as a member of the United States military, battled bitterly (may I add) with an attorney I'm not at all pleased with and an ex-husband I can't wait to be completely rid of. But through it all and in spite of it all....I'm still here!
I resumed my passion for blogging back in August of this year and have met and re-acquainted myself with some really great people.
It is my sincere hope, prayer, and belief that 2010 will be an absolutely awesome year.
I wish this not only for myself but for anyone that happens to stumble across this blog and for those who don't.
I'm going to take the rest of this holiday season to enjoy my sons, real-life friends and other family members. So, I'll be seeing you guys after the new year.
With that being said I want to wish everyone happiness this holiday season. May the warmth and love of your friends, family and your favorite alcoholic beverage fill you with holiday cheer.
God bless you all and I'll see ya soon :-)

Today Facebook.....Tomorrow, The Fruit of Your Womb
A few months ago I caught a small story on the news about a high school teacher who had been fired for posting some of her vacation pics on Facebook.I thought to myself....okay, another moron posing in her bikini next to a cop car or simulating some lewd act....probably one of those "Girls Gone Wild" photo sessions. Boy, was I wrong!
Ashley Payne only posted a few pics of herself holding alcoholic beverages. She took photos at the Guinness factory in Ireland and sipping wine in Italy
I mean seriously folks. The school system claims it was poor judgment on Ms. Payne's part as it may give the students a negative image of their teacher. I say.... it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!

Twitter Turns a $5 million Profit
Not bad for a company that's only 3 years old and based solely on 140 character informational shorts from the millions of Twitterers out in cyberspace.Back in October Twitter founders made deals with Microsoft and Google to allow tweets to appear in Bing and Google searches.
Got to give it to Twitter for thinking on their toys. The public constant insatiable appetite for real time search results placed the founders of the little blue bird in a fine spot.
The deal with Google was worth $10 million and Microsoft, $15 million.
Twitters operating expenses are around $20 million. So, a $5 million profit isn't bad at all for a company that hasn't even hit the 5 year mark yet.
Damn, wish I could think of something to rake in a cool 5 million after only 3 frickin' years.

Run Uterus....Run!
Creative Junkie is another favorite blog of mine. The author is a wife, mother, and a kick ass funny writer. She recently posted the cutest video. You've got to see it for yourself to really get the idea behind her brief summation of what the video did for her which was:
I’m going to leave you with this video I found on boomclips.com because watching an adorable baby makes me smile and watching an adorable baby with her daddy makes my uterus want to stage a comeback. Good thing there’s sound on this video. There’s nothing like the memory of a crying baby in the middle of the night to make my uterus not only permanently retire but also crawl all the way up into my esophagus and suck its thumb.

The Black Frame of Mind
I'm sick of immoral politician getting their palms greased by corporate America and falsely assuming we, the American people, are naive enough to not know it.
I'm sick of world hunger, war, disease and a blatant disregard for obtaining a quality education.
I'm sick of the color of my skin being an issue. As cheesy as it sounds, there is only one race - the human race!
I live for the day that color, ethnicity, gender, and sexual preference aren't an issue with regard to whether a person is capable of performing the task in front of them.
I live for the day that being a Mississippian isn't synonymous with bare feet, bucked teeth, inbreeding and illiteracy.

Dealing With Relatives During The Holidays
We are in the midst of the holiday season. In just a few days, homes will be infused with the delightful scents of holiday cooking, the nostalgic reminiscence of Christmases of long ago, the laughter and unbridled energy of little ones scurrying around playing with their shiny new toys - all in jeopardy of becoming a nightmare caused by the relative from hell!
Admit it or not - we all have that one relative that gets on everyone's last frazzled nerve.
Knowing how to deal with these characters often prevents migraines, abrupt departures, or requiring the services of your local bail bondsman on Christmas Day!
Let's take a look at some of the personalities we love to hate!

My Imagination Needs a Break
Recently divorced and living alone for the first time in my adult life has been quite a challenge. The biggest adjustment has been conquering my fear of the dark.
I've finally moved beyond night lights, leaving lights on in other rooms or requiring the assistance of the television to lull me to sleep.
I just remind myself that (aside from the cats) I'm the only one here. Noises, creaking sounds and other things that go bump in the night are explained away as either movement in the other apartments or caused by natural elements - wind, rain, etc.
All my work at gaining my independence and overcoming a life long fear of the dark was almost shattered instantaneously a few mornings ago before dawn.
I'd been in bed most of the day and night. So, I decided to get up and head to the living room....just to change things up a bit.
I started a nice cozy fire in the fireplace, grabbed the blanket off the ottoman and plopped down in my favorite chair with feet and legs resting comfortably on the same ottoman.

James Chartrand Tells it Like it Is Which Isn't How It Should Be
In a word, "These Dudes Can Write!"....well I guess that's actually 4 words. But back to the subject at hand.
Writing or should I say being able to write isn't easy. Putting pen to paper or fingertips to keyboard and creating something that inspires, informs, entertains, angers, persuades, dissuades,.....is an art form and few people have it.
And ignorant little ole me never imagined there were people naive and biased enough to believe one sex is more dominant or better in this field we call freelance writing which is what made James' recent "outing" so astonishing.
James Chartrand isn't really a James at all. At this point she doesn't really feel her name is all that important. She actually still wants to be referred to as James.
Now unless you've slept through the first portion of this post....you had to catch the she in the previous sentence.
That's right! James Chartrand is a she and the reason SHE decided to use a male pseudonym in the first place shows just how archaic and sexist some of us still are in our thinking. Oh, the story is a good one.
You can read about why she felt she had to do this on Copyblogger or her website Men With Pens....lol.
Wow...amazing...absolutely amazing

Santa Claus - Is he or Isn't he...
Although the gifts aren't nearly as awesome as they used to be - no more Easy Bake Ovens, Baby Alives, Operation games, roller skates with the cute little pom poms - Christmas is still my favorite time of year.Everyone (for the most part) seems to be in a festive mood. Towns even get into the holiday spirit with those cheesy decorations they've been using for the past eon.
At night, the street corners and houses are all aglow with dazzling lights, wreaths and the usual big plastic Santa and his reindeer camping peacefully in a few of the neighborhood yards.
And as strange as it may seem, I always do a double take when I see a black Santa.
I know it's a personal choice and since we all know Santa isn't real....although my sister and I saw him with our very own eyes as children....I guess it really doesn't matter whether your plastic Santa is Claus, Clark, Wong or Gonzales!
Tis the season to be jolly right?
But back to me and my sister's encounter with ole Kris Kringle himself.

Garden Gnomes and Grave Diggers be Warned
If you're a reader of this blog, you know I'm a week into this new age group...the 40s. Oh, you betcha! I celebrated that monumental milestone one week ago today. Most of the comments from well wishers regarding my birthday were quite kind - "you don't look 40"...."Happy Birthday dear"...."Life is just beginning"...and I even got an occasional "you're just a baby"...Of course, this last reply was generally one I received during potty patrol from my patients over the age of 85! But hey...a girl takes her compliments where ever she can get 'em!
Then there were the party crashers - the balloon busters - the angry old women...you know the one's that are only about 3 or 4 years older than you but have more miles than a Michelin cruising in under the checkered flag after winning at Talladega.
These bitter beer faces really made me begin to wonder - when it is that you decide to just let yourself go?
You stop exercising, doing your hair (the roots ladies...I'm talking about the roots), caring about your skin and body. Is there ever really a time that these things stop mattering. I sure as hell hope not.

Who Am I and Why Am I Here
Oh, that's right. It's no longer Saturday. Guess I'll have to grab a quick shower and find the pair that have "Sunday" playfully printed across the front.
Dinner was a simple salad and an amazingly seasoned pork loin chop via the George Foreman grill. I've decided to make a conscious effort to eat healthier and cut out some of the items that I'm sure have already clogged a few of my arteries. But like they say...you have to start some where.
As I was squatting in the living room...you know the way you squat with your knees in your chest and your butt almost touching the floor but never actually touching...kind of like a human pretzel....it occurred to me that I'm actually 40 years old - the same age my mother was when I graduated from high school. The same age as so many patients I've cared for in the hospital that are suffering from heart disease, end stage renal disease, insulin dependent diabetes and an assortment of other infirmities too depressing to mention.

I'm Going Au Natural
The fear of the STRAIGHTENING COMB.
Oh sure, for millions this was a God send. A way for people of African descent to straighten their hair. No more naturally wavy, kinky, hard to manage tresses.
With a lot of heat, a bit of iron and a scalp to sacrifice...it was all good.
Later products like hair relaxers and other harsh chemicals replaced the straightening comb. But I still remember sitting in the kitchen on a small stool between my mother's legs while she literally "set my scalp on fire"!
It was a time consuming process. Between me sliding off the stool in an attempt to escape the heat and the fact that she had to straighten my entire head...the whole fiasco usually took about 45 minutes to an hour.

To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before...On Sale Now $200,000!
Virgin Galactic founder, Sir Richard Branson is just a bit closer to his dream of an aircraft designed to take thrill seekers into space...for a nominal fee...ummm...let's try $200,000.
Sub-orbital passenger flights could start as early as 2011 from Virgin Galactic’s space port in New Mexico which is currently under construction.
With more than 300 future passengers already putting up the $200,000 for a seat on SpaceShipTwo, there appears to be a strong demand for the rides to the blackness of space. After a few successful flights are broadcast to the world, more people are expected to line up for a window seat on the first commercial spaceship.
I'm sure it's just me but WTF!!!

Nobody Likes a Copy Cat!
We live in a world where competitiveness is one of the driving factors in all that we do. Although competition can often be a good thing there are times when it can spiral completely out of control.
We want a better car than our neighbor's. We want a better house than our sister's. We want to live a better lifestyle than we can afford which generally causes a great deal of money problems.
Whatever happened to being comfortable and satisfied with what we have?
Are we so vain and greedy that our only motivation in life is "out doing" or attempting to appear to be out doing the Joneses?

When They'd Rather Text Than Talk!
Texting has created a whole new language. BRB, BTW, LOL, LMAO, and tons of other abbreviations were unheard of just a few years ago.I was even stomped recently with IMO. For those who don't know that's the cool text abbreviation for in my opinion.
My oldest son would rather text than talk...unbelievable! But what's even more astonishing is the rate of speed these texting exchanges take to occur.
Have you seen those little text demons at work? A whole texting conversation can take place in a matter of seconds. And most of these guys don't have the convenience of the QWERTY keyboard.

Missing Without A Trace - Kristina Branum and Christopher Mittendorf
Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, cousins, and dear friends....imagine if you will sending your loved one off to school, work or out for a fun evening with friends....and NEVER seeing them again. I've lost pets and nearly suffered a mental breakdown. How families can cope with this type of loss....I have no idea. But this is what happened to the families of Kristina Branum and Christopher Mittendorf in July of 2006. Kristina was 17 and Christopher, 21.
My dear blogging friend Buelah asked me to dedicate this post to helping the family of these two young people come to some resolution about what happened. The father of the young lady is an old classmate of his and is nearly out of his mind with grief (I can't EVEN imagine). Law enforcement authorities aren't returning his calls and I can't remember the story every receiving any coverage from the MSM.
What is it that makes some cases so high profile and others just completely unnewsworthy. I can remember hearing about the Holloway girl for what seemed liked at least 2 years. And deservingly so. But all children that ARE MISSING deserve the same press time.
I guess "news" about how many women Tiger Woods bedded, what Michelle Obama wore on vacation, or the frickin' Gate-crashers is more important.
Folks we've really lost sight of what's precious and most important in life....our young people. And they're being murdered, kidnapped and/or exploited far too much.
If you have any information about the whereabouts of these two young people, you may reach their loved ones at the following numbers:
William and Teresa Branum may be contacted at 731-926-1215. You may contact Dennis and Cheryl Flatt at 731-412-7876.
Google Search - Going Above and Beyond With 'Real Time' Data
If you don't think the millions of tweets, Facebook updates and Myspace jargon are changing the way with do things....think again.Google recently announced their plan to include fresh information from Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, blogs, new sites and other popular hangouts in their search results.
Not only will you get the usual static links, photos and videos...you'll also see a capsule with pertinent tweets, blog posts and news stories.
Google is trying to provide better real-time results to maintain its huge lead in search as Microsoft and Yahoo prepare to team up in a partnership that still needs regulatory approval. Google processes about two-thirds of the search requests worldwide while Yahoo and Microsoft handle a combined 10 percent.
I don't think Google has anything to worry about....
Popeye's Very Own Google Doodle
Not only is Google a power house search engine that probably knows more about me than I know about myself....but they know the most random trivia too!
Today's Google doodle is in honor of Elzie Crisler Segar....I know! Who the hell is or was that? Well, thanks to Google, I discovered that Segar was the cartoonist that brought us one of the most loved characters of my childhood, Popeye, the sailor man.
Segar was born today back in 1894. Happy 115th birthday dude! And thanks for the great memories.

Blog Resources to Help You Blog Better
Constantly improving in anything we endeavor to do is one goal we all should store away in our memory bank, magnetize to the refrigerator or write at the very top of your "to do" list on a daily basis. On my journey to becoming a better blogger, reader, writer and person visiting other really inspiring and informative blogs has been a tremendous help.
If this list were to include every blog I've ever read that has taught me some valuable lesson in one way or another, I would probably cause Blogspot to crash and burn. It would be just that huge. Not wanting that guilt on my conscious, I'll just name a few.

Sunday Selects #4
Hope everyone's having an awesome weekend. It's been unusually cold here. So, wrapping up in front of the fireplace with a nice glass of wine and some easy listening music has been the most energy I've exerted all weekend.
However, before my hibernation began, I did manage to stumble a few interesting blog posts this week. Here's a list of a few I thought were especially interesting. I hope you take the time to check out a couple.
This upcoming week will be one of my many milestones in life. Tomorrow I will be celebrating my 40th birthday! GIFTS, well wishes, wise cracks about life after 40, and all other expressions are acceptable :)

My Favorite Madea-ism - The Tree of Life
Ms. Mabel Simmons a.k.a Madea is one of the most loved characters Tyler Perry has ever created. She's a pistol packing, sailor mouthed, God fearing family matriarch. When Madea first hit the scene her adoring audience consisted of Perry's few faithful followers.
As his popularity grew, so did Madea's following.
I loved her from day one! In so many ways, she reminded me of my Madea. Quite a few people that are guilty of taking life far to serious were offended by Mr. Perry's character - claiming she was a poor and derogatory depiction of what true Madea's are actually like.
I say true Madea's because just about every African American family in America currently has or had a Madea. I'm not sure where the term originated but it's a term of endearment given to many grandmothers in the African American community.
Although most real life Madea's wouldn't dare behave like the law breaking, fight in a minute, curse you like a sailor on screen Madea, there are other characteristics to Perry's character that embody what a true Madea is - wise, strong, spiritual and more than capable of keeping a family together.
Simmons is a reminder of what's missing in so many families today - a strong no nonsense presence....someone who will tell you just like it is - whether you like it not.
Madea is famous for speaking her mind and not apologizing for it.
One of my favorite Madea-ism's was delivered by Madea during one of Perry's stage plays, Madea Goes to Jail - which later became the movie.
I was at home watching the play on DVD. At the time, my life was spiraling out of control - recently separated from my ex-husband, in the midst of a career change and up to my eyeballs in advice from people who were in no shape or condition to offer it.
Mabel Simmons began to speak and this is what she said -
"If somebody wants to walk out of your life, let - them - go!
Some people are meant to come into your life for a lifetime, some for only a season and you got to know which is which. And you're always messing up when you mix those seasonal people up with lifetime expectations.
I put everybody that comes into my life in the category of a tree. Some people are like leaves on a tree. When the wind blows , they're over there... wind blow that way they over here... they're unstable. When the seasons change they wither and die, they're gone. That's alright. Most people are like that, they're not there to do anything but take from the tree and give shade every now and then. That's all they can do. But don't get mad at people like that, that's who they are. That's all they were put on this earth to be. A leaf.
Some people are like a branch on that tree. You have to be careful with those branches too, cause they'll fool you. They'll make you think they're a good friend and they're real strong but the minute you step out there on them, they'll break and leave you high and dry.
But if you find 2 or 3 people in your life that's like the roots at the bottom of that tree you are blessed. Those are the kind of people that aren't going nowhere. They aren't worried about being seen, nobody has to know that they know you, they don't have to know what they're doing for you but if those roots weren't there, that tree couldn't live.
A tree could have a hundred million branches but it only takes a few roots down at the bottom to make sure that tree gets everything it needs. When you get some roots, hold on to them but the rest of it... just let it go. Let folks go."
As his popularity grew, so did Madea's following.

Twitter Etiquette - Or At Least My Version
I've been on the Twitter bandwagon since the 140 character phenomenon first took flight. I've watched my following rise and fall like the ever changing ocean tides.
My Twitter updates are random...to say the least. Some days I tweet obsessively and then there are times that I go weeks without a single tweet.
Utilizing Twitter to increase sales, drive traffic to your site and establish other online networking ventures is a great idea. But for me Twitter is more about connecting with people. Discovering just how alike we actually are on this little planet called Earth.
If I had to name one negative about Twitter, it would be the inability to follow more people. I mean true enough...once your following exceeds 2000 you can actually follow as many people as you want. But until you reach that magic number you're only allowed to follow 2000.
I guess it's Twitter's way of preventing excessive spamming...blah blah blah...which brings me to the topic of today's post....And yes, smarty pants....in spite of all this rambling....I do have a topic!

Tiger, Elin and Those Damn Deadly Golf Clubs
I'm willing to bet the greatest golfer ever never thought he'd be chased out of his palatial style mansion by a devoted wife wielding a killer golf club driven to temporary insanity induced by discovering her husband's "transgressions".Unless you live on the planet Vulcan (and maybe they've even heard) I'm sure you've heard all the hoopla about Tiger Woods, his wife, the crash, the golf club and most importantly the other women.
As a woman, mother and former wife, my heart definitely goes out to Elin, Woods' wife who allegedly attacked him after discovering her husband was having an affair with another woman.
The betrayal, loss of trust and heart break can be devastating. It's a matter so delicate and personal the only people that matter are Tiger and Elin. Their marriage could very well be on the edge of a disastrous and untimely end.
Finding Blog Post Ideas through Picture Writing

What is it about blogging that causes such dedication on the part of the blogger? The endless hours of brainstorming for post ideas, optimizing your site in hopes of aesthetically pleasing your readers, visiting countless other blogs searching for a topic that inspires or motivates you to write something earth shatteringly important or interesting.
Dedication is defined as commitment: the act of binding yourself (intellectually or emotionally) to a course of action.
Does that definition sum up how you feel about blogging. But wait before you convince yourself that you're not dedicated to blogging answer these questions -
Do you feel the slightest bit uneasy if you don't have a post ready for the next day?
When something funny or exciting happens in real life do you get excited about the idea of blogging about it?
Is your blog circle of friends bigger than your real life circle of friends?
Okay....I'll stop there! If you answered yes to these questions, you're most certainly hooked!

Google Wave.....Ok, Now What?
I finally took the time to check my email and discovered I had received an invite to "ride" the Google Wave. It all looks completely Greek to me. I'm sure once I find the time to really check out some of the links and add a few contacts things will start looking a bit clearer. Here's a screen shot of the Wave -
and a quick little 90 second video from "Dr. Wave" explaining what wave riders are actually supposed to be doing.

You can then select the number of posts you want to display on the main page. We recommend displaying 10 or fewer posts on the main page.

So You Think You Can Write?
I recently applied for a job online as a freelance writer with Suite 101, an independent online magazine written and edited by professionals. Finding ways to showcase my blog and my writing style is something I enjoy doing and I'm always up for a challenge. I just didn't know how much of a challenge I was in for.The application process is pretty routine. Name, email address, method you'd like to receive your compensation and the submission of two articles written by the applicant. Easy enough.
