Garden Gnomes and Grave Diggers be Warned

If you're a reader of this blog, you know I'm a week into this new age group...the 40s. Oh, you betcha! I celebrated that monumental milestone one week ago today.

Most of the comments from well wishers regarding my birthday were quite kind - "you don't look 40"...."Happy Birthday dear"...."Life is just beginning"...and I even got an occasional "you're just a baby"...Of course, this last reply was generally one I received during potty patrol from my patients over the age of 85! But hey...a girl takes her compliments where ever she can get 'em!

Then there were the party crashers - the balloon busters - the angry old women...you know the one's that are only about 3 or 4 years older than you but have more miles than a Michelin cruising in under the checkered flag after winning at Talladega.

These bitter beer faces really made me begin to wonder - when it is that you decide to just let yourself go?

You stop exercising, doing your hair (the roots ladies...I'm talking about the roots), caring about your skin and body. Is there ever really a time that these things stop mattering. I sure as hell hope not.

I know it's a battle between Father Time and me. But it's one I'm willing to wage.

I refuse to have boobies you could hide a run-a-way garden gnome underneath. Or heels a grave digger would die for (pun intended).

Don't get me wrong...I'm not so shallow as to think that looks are all that matter. But don't you be so shallow as to think they're not important. Besides, who doesn't want to look and feel their best?

It was easy a couple of decades ago. Just about all I had to do was shower, get dressed and go. Now it requires a bit more time and the assistance of a few weapons of past destructions I like to utilize.

Yes my friends the Oil of Olay commercial peddling products that meant nothing 20 years ago...is now a must have. I want the anti-wrinkle this, the age-defying that and sprinkle in some of that firming goo!

Oh well back to the battlefield...I've gotta apricot scrub, jar of Vaseline and Buns of Steel video all calling my name!

Oops...almost forgot...found a great blog about turning 40. Turning 40 - It's All About the Journey . Check it out...it's a pretty good read.
