Keeping Your Best Blog Posts Readily Accessible

Every once in a while one of your blog posts will capture more attention than the hundreds you've done before. Visitors and search engines will shower you with increased traffic and recognition for the fruits of your labor. But alas, as each day passes your stellar literary masterpiece slips farther and farther down the page.

So far, in fact, you'd probably need a grave digger to bring it back to the surface.

Here are a  few tips for keeping your best blog posts in the spotlight...

Featured article section - Some blogging platforms offer templates with a built-in "featured article" section. The article that you know has been a hit for you is the first item visitors to your site see.

Feature large number of articles on your home page - Great idea but bad for business. Pages with more than 10 posts generally tend to slow down your site's loading speed. A "Read More" post summary can help with (now available in Blogger) this problem.

Deep linking within posts - If you consistently write about the same subject matter, structure your more current post in a way that will allow you to sprinkle links back to your older ones. For example - one of my best or most traffic generating post was written several weeks ago concerning the proposed health care plan.

It wasn't even a topic I was considering. It came about after I took the time to research the plan - focusing mostly on the absurd notion that death panels were outlined in HR 3200.

The title of the post is 'The Death Panel and HR 3200'. Apparently this title was exactly what people were looking for. I know this because I googled the title exactly as it's written and my post was the #1 choice.

Adding a popular post widget - Very common these days. Just make sure the widget is near the top of your sidebar. Another good idea is to add a 'related posts' section in your post footer.
