All Entrecard droppers please read!Ever walked into a store, restaurant or other place of business and knew immediately that IT WAS NOT WHERE YOU WANTED TO BE! Maybe it was the atmosphere, the people, the merchandise...just wasn't your style.
Well that's sort of the way a website's bounce rate is viewed. Google's definition of a site's bounce rate indicates that Google thinks that web pages with a high bounce rate aren't relevant to website visitors. If your web pages have a high bounce rate for a search term, Google might lower the rankings of your website for that search term. In a nutshell, a high bounce rate along with other factors can ADVERSELY effect your ranking!!!! Just like the title states - high bounce rate = "I came - I puked - I left!"....
So, this is my plan. I've found lots of wonderful blogs via Entrecard dropping. Some I really love. And there are others that aren't quite what I'm looking for - not bad...just not for me. The sites I enjoy I usually always read at least their FIRST post and LEAVE A COMMENT....I said and LEAVE A COMMENT. I personally value my blogosphere friends and commenting is our only form of "connecting". So, I, like many others, "live" for commenting and other forms of interaction through other avenues like social networking, for example.
Card dropping is extremely time consuming and often by the time you've returned all 300 drops that you've received in a 24 hour period...the last thing on your mind is leaving a freakin' comment. You want to BOUNCE in and BOUNCE out - the pages can't load fast enough!
And my friends...this isn't helping anybody. I'd rather have 30 visits a day from people who are genuinely interested in what I have to say than 300 visits a day where the folks leave before the page even finishes loading.
So, to alleviate this problem....I will be painstakingly combing through the sites that have dropped here and that I've dropped on. The ones that are relevant to me and that I enjoy visiting...I will continue card dropping, commenting and enjoying. The others...I must bid adieu and I ask that you do the same. If you're only dropping to earn points....KEEP GOING. I want the visitors here to want to be here not feel obligated because of a stupid card.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE POST - wouldn't you know it...Google has a site that will analyze your website/blog's bounce rate. It's Google Analytics. There's just a bit of HTML code that you place in your template. The Google Blog even has a post concerning "bouncing".
Finally, I hope I didn't offend anyone. I just figure life is to short to be wasting hours dropping cards to earn more points to drop more cards to earn more points to place more of your cards on sites where people aren't really all that interested in the first place.
