100 Pediatric Health Blogs every Mom should read
One of the most fearful days of my life was the morning the time had come to bring my 5 day old newborn home from the hospital. Yep, you heard right! I was in the hospital for five (5) long days.
Back in the early 90s before DRGs and ICD-9 codes turned individuals into "standardized groups" with a time line placed on when everyone should get well...hospital stays were just a bit longer. I had C-sections with both my boys so, of course my stay was a bit more extended than that of someone having gone through normal child birth.
Discharge day was filled with mixed emotions for me. I was ready to get the heck out of that place and scared to death thinking about the fact that I was going to be left with the task of caring for a BABY....OMG! I was 21 years old and had never hardly even held a newborn!
I wasn't going to have a call light to summons the nurse when I didn't understand something. There was no nursery where I could have him carted off to when I felt like napping. There was no pediatrician that would knock on my door every morning and give me an update on whether the baby was developing properly....and worst of all my What to Expect When You're Expecting book had been battered and tattered beyond recognition. There wasn't another piece of info I was going to be able to squeeze out of that one - not even with vise grips!
Alas, things worked out just fine. I soon realized that everyone goes through the same thing. There's no instruction manual for parenting. You're actually Flying by the Seat of Your Pants!
One thing that may have been of some help back then was the list I stumbled across this morning. The Nurse Practitioner Schools website has compiled a list of 100 Pediatric Health Blogs every mom should read. These blogs are authored by doctors, practitioners, other medical professionals and more importantly - OTHER PARENTS!
My new baby stage is over! Thank God. But hopefully these sites will be good new sources for all you NEWBIES with NEWBORNS.
